| Injectable Dermal Fillers
Injected dermal fillers are a non-surgical treatment where material is placed into the skin and subcutaneous tissue, most commonly to treat facial folds and wrinkles. Fillers can also be utilized for volume replacement bringing back a more youthful appearance to the aging face or hands, or for volume enhancement---giving a patient more prominent cheek bones or fuller lips.
The most common areas where fillers are utilized include:
-
Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth)
-
Cheek bones
-
Marionette lines (lines beneath the corner of the mouth)
-
Pre-jowl sulcus (indentation on the side of the jowl)
-
Lips
-
Hands (aged hands lose fat and have more prominent tendons and veins)
-
Lower eyelid rejuvenation
-
Correction of nose bumps
-
Acne Scars

There are several available fillers used today by cosmetic dermatologists. A consultation is required to select the filler that best fits your needs. Dr. Schweiger utilizes the following dermal fillers:

Restylane?/b> is the most commonly used filler in the U.S. today. It is composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance normally found in the dermis. It is frequently used in the nasolabial folds or the lips. It can also be used to treat hallows some patients have under their eyes. This product usually last around 6 months.

Perlane?/b> is a newer product, manufactured by the same company as Restylane. It is also composed of hyaluronic acid , but is a thicker product and usually lasts a little longer than Restylane. It can be used in the cheeks or nasolabial folds.

Juvederm?/b> is a hyaluronic acid product very similar to Restylane. The lips are a popular target for Juvederm because it can have a "soft?feel to it.

Radiesse?/b> is a dermal filler derived from calcium hydroxylapatite (natural component found in bone) and lasts 6 months to 1 year. It is commonly used to enhance the cheeks bones or to replace volume in the mid cheek. It can also be used for hand rejuvenation and to fill in nasal bumps or asymmetries.

Sculptra?/b> is an injectable filler that is placed deeper than all the other ones. It is composed of a material called "poly-L-lactic acid" that works by stimulating the body to produce its own collagen. Several treatments of Sculptra?are needed to see an effect, and results last from 2 to 5 years. |
