A Fix for Your Bad Hair Transplant

Dr. Schweiger is often contacted by patients who have had a bad hair transplant in the past and want to know what they can do to fix it.  Dr. Schweiger explains that, “Bad hair transplants can be corrected with laser hair removal.  Laser hair removal uses a specific type of laser to target the pigmented cells of the hair follicles, so that unwanted hairs are removed. “ Laser hair removal can be safely used to remove unwanted hair plugs or a poorly placed hairline after hair transplantation.  It does not affect the other areas of the scalp that look okay after hair transplant.  After 4-6 treatments, your desired hairline is renewed and the transplanted hair that has been removed with the laser treatment will not return.  Some patients find that after the unwanted hairs are removed, they are left with marks on the area.  These marks can be removed with a laser called the Fractional CO2 Laser.  This laser stimulates the growth of healthy collagen to smooth out the marks from the bad hair transplant.  In the end, patients are left with their desired hairline and smooth skin on the treated area.
