Acne News: Aloe May Help Prevent Breakouts

This just in: Aloe may prevent acne breakouts. The sap from the aloe vera plant has long been known to help heal and soothe sunburns, but it turns out aloe also has beneficial effects on acne. Aloe contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help ease redness and swelling of acne lesions. When using aloe topically on acne, there are some important things to remember. First, make sure the aloe is either pure aloe or undiluted. Gently tap it onto the acne lesion and let it sit for a minute to allow it to sink into the skin. Dr. Schweiger recommends consulting a dermatologist when you start any anti-acne regimen. The patients that have the most success in getting rid of acne follow a multi-pronged approach, which includes chemical peels, FAST technique and prescription medication.
