Best Laser Acne Treatments

Patients often ask us, "what is the best acne treatment?"  The answer is that the best treatment for acne is different for every patient.  Different types of acne on different skin types require a unique approach to treatment.  Prescription medications and at-home devices, such as the Clarisonic brush, are part of many acne regimens.  However, the most effective and fastest-acting acne treatment is usually in-office laser treatment. There are many laser treatments available for acne.  Dr. Schweiger has found that the most effective laser acne treatments are Photodynamic Therapy and Isolaz Acne Therapy.  These treatments are often used in combination with each other in a series of treatments.  Photodynamic Therapy uses a Blue LED Light to activate a medication called Levulan.  This medication is applied to the skin and activated in order to shrink the oil glands and decrease the p. acnes bacteria that leads to acne.  The Isolaz treatment combines a vacuum to clean out clogged pores with a broad-spectrum light that kills acne-causing bacteria.
