Botox Treatments for Acne

Botox, which just recently celebrated its 10th birthday, has certainly become known as a hero treatment for wrinkles and deep lines and folds. Botox injections work by freezing the nerves in the face that minimize the muscle contractions and facial movements that lead to wrinkles. Botox has enjoyed a huge rise in the past 10 years and is continually the top minimally invasive cosmetic treatment on the market. Now you can add acne treatment to the list of skin issues Botox tackles. Botox effectively inhibits overactive sweat glands and it does something very similar with sebum production. New research is showing that when injected into the skin, Botox reduces pore size and sebum production. When an abundance of sebum is produce, it clogs pores and breeds with the P. acnes bacteria, and thus causes acne breakouts. By minimizing the production of sebum, Botox prohibits new pimples from forming. The use of Botox as an effective acne treatment is still a new finding. It should be noted that Botox should not be used on teenage acne sufferers.
