Botox Use is Climbing for People in Their 20s

Botox Injection - CloseupBotox, the popular anti-aging injecitble cosmetic treatment, is on the rise for people in their 20s. As one of the most requested minimally-invasive wrinkle-reducing treatments, Botox has long held appeal for those age 30 and above to iron out their fine lines and wrinkles. But now a whole generation of patients in their 20s are turning to Botox to not only rid of any wrinkles they do have, but to also prevent future wrinkles from forming on their skin. According to the Plastic Surgery Statistics Report in 2012 by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of Botox procedures amongst 20-somethings increased by 8 percent in 2012 to 92,955 procedures from the previous year. In total, there were about 6.1 million Botox injection treatments done last year in the United States,  making it the number one minimally-invasive cosmetic treatment across all age groups, the report said. So why would an age group that typically does not have any lines or wrinkles to complain about start seeking our Botox treatments? The answer is prevention. Botox essentially disables your ability to create wrinkles with facial movements, such as squinting, eyebrow raising and puckering the lips, which is something many smokers do. While Botox can certainly help prevent and treat wrinkles, it is generally used for those starting at age 30. There is nothing wrong with starting a good anti-aging regimen early. The best prevention technique to stave off aging and wrinkles is using proper sun protection and not smoking.  We also suggest incorporating an antioxidant into your skincare routine. Daily use of a skincare product with antoxidants in the morning, such as Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, will help fight free radicals that can wreck havoc on the skin and speed up the aging process. Antioxidant ingredients include vitamin C, green tea and pomegranate.
