Can Botox Make You Happier?

If you are considering Botox injections for wrinkle removal, you might want to factor in research showing that Botox can actually have a positive effect on your mood. Research dating as far back to Charles Darwin shows that the expressions we make on our face are linked to how we feel emotionally. Thanks to Botox injections in the frown-line area (which is the area between the eyebrows, also known as the "11s"), we might actually become happier people if our face isn't able to express anger or sadness as easily. In a recent story in USA Today, a few mental health professionals were interview about the possible positive effects of Botox on our mental health. "I don't think it's a farfetched idea," Philip Levendusky, director of the psychology department at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass. and an associate professor at Harvard Medical School, told the paper. According to USA Today, Paul Ekman, an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of California San Francisco Medical School, whose research first established the idea that emotions and expressions are linked, said he thinks it's perfectly plausible that changing people's facial expressions will change their mood. Or maybe just looking better, makes you feel better? Bottom Line: Yes, Botox is excellent at wrinkle removal, but it can also improve your overall outlook on life and help alleviate depression.
