Carpooling Can Cause Premature Aging

By schlepping their kids to and from school and various after school activities, moms who carpool are no doubt helping out their families. But could it be to the detriment of their skin? By driving the kids around, moms could be receiving unintentional sun exposure through the windows of their cars. The damaging UVA rays can easily pass through the car's windows. Sun exposure leads to premature aging of the skin, causing wrinkles, brown spots and that sunken in look that makes people look much older than they are. The best ways for moms to limit their sun exposure is by applying a broad spectrum sun screen of SPF 30 before they get in the car. It's important to apply the sunscreen not only to the face, but also to the hands. Sunglasses will also help block the eye area from sun exposure. To improve skin that's already showing the signs of aging, make an appointment to see Dr. Schweiger for a prescription retinoid, which is a derivative of vitamin A. Retinoids help with collagen rebuilding and greatly improve skin tone and texture. Dermal fillers such as Restylane will plump up areas of the face and restore a natural looking volume to those sunken in areas. Laser therapy is another fantastic way to treat skin that's been damaged from the sun. Fractionated lasers will improve skin tone and smooth fine lines by targeting small sections of the deep layers of skin and leave the surrounding skin untouched. Chemical peels using glycolic acid will treat those brown spots and help refresh the entire look of the skin.
