What causes cellulite?
Cellulite is very common; nearly all women have some degree of cellulite on their thighs or buttocks. There are a few factors that contribute to the formation of cellulite: fat, fibrous bands, and thin skin. Fat pockets develop on the thighs and the buttocks, allowing fibrous bands to pull down on them, which results in the dimpled appearance of cellulite. Thin skin, that has lost some of its healthy elasticity, makes the appearance of cellulite more prominent. Even very thin women can develop cellulite. Fat reduction through exercise can help to decrease the appearance of cellulite, though it will not eliminate it completely.
Cellulaze is an innovative new treatment used to improve the appearance of cellulite. It is a minimally invasive treatment performed in the office while you are awake. A laser fiber is used to reduce pockets of fat in the affected area, break up the fibrous bands that pull down on these fat pockets, and improve the quality and elasticity of the skin. Improving the overlying skin helps to reduce the dimpled appearance of cellulite and gives a tightening effect to the area. The Cellulaze is the only treatment that uses all three methods to get rid of cellulite.
What should I expect during my Cellulaze treatment?
All treatments are performed at Schweiger Dermatology, in midtown Manhattan. You will be awake during the treatment. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area, so that you do not feel pain during your visit. The laser fiber is inserted through very tiny incision sites into the area to be treated. This laser breaks down the fat pockets in the area, while disrupting the fibrous bands pulling down on the skin and improving the elasticity of the surrounding skin. After your treatment, you may have soreness and bruising, but no lengthy downtime. Most patients return to their normal social and work obligations within one or two days and resume exercise within one or two weeks.
What are the results of Cellulaze?
Cellulaze results are dramatic. After one treatment, skin elasticity is improved by 29%. 93% of patients surveyed one year after a single procedure were satisfied with the treatment and their subsequent improvement. Some improvement of cellulite is seen immediately, though long-lasting dramatic improvement of cellulite takes three to twelve months.
