Closer Look at the Home Cortisone Shot

home-cortisone-shot-get-rid-of-acneIt seems as though pimples only arise on the worst of days, when you have a huge meeting or big event on the calendar!  We've all tried using OTC spot treatments, such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which help a little.  However, in addition to not completely getting rid of the pimple, they cause unwanted irritation on the skin, which is sometimes more noticeable than the pimple itself!  Dr. Schweiger explains that, "To get rid of acne quickly, the very best course of action is to schedule a cortisone shot with your dermatologist.  This is a tiny injection of a diluted anti-inflammatory medication that goes directly into the acne bump.  The result is flattening of the acne completely within 24-48 hours, and no irritation on the skin." Unfortunately, not everyone is able to stop by their dermatologist's office in time to get rid of their pimple before a big event.  For this reason, Dr. Schweiger developed the Home Cortisone Shot.  The Home Cortisone Shot is a mixture of three prescription medications, all of which help to get rid of acne quickly by a different method.
  • Clobetasol - this is a strong anti-inflammatory medication, which decreases inflammation on the skin
  • Clindamycin - this is a topical antibiotic, to kill the acne-causing p. acnes bacteria
  • Tretinoin - this is a prescription strength retinoid, which unclogs the affected pores
The unique combination of these three prescription strength ingredients can only be found in the Home Cortisone Shot.  We recommend using it sparingly; it should be applied in the morning and evening directly to the acne bump, for up to 3 days.
