What is Dysport?
Dysport (Botulinum Toxin) is an FDA approved medication that works by relaxing the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles and frown lines.Dysport and Botox are both Botulinum toxins type A.
How does Dysport work?
Small amounts of Dysport are injected into the facial muscles, which block the neuromuscular signal, resulting in decreased muscle activity in the treated area and prevention of the movements that cause the deep frown lines. Over the next few days, the facial muscles gradually relax and the deep frown lines between the eyebrows will soften. You will still have a very natural look after your Dysport injections.
How long does Dysport last?
Many patients ask us how long Dysport lasts. The benefits of Dysport become apparent gradually, usually around 3 to 5 days after the injection. The effect of Dysport lasts from 3-4 months.
Who can benefit from Dysport?
Anyone with frown lines or wrinkles can benefit from Dysport. Dysport can be used to prevent permanent frown lines from ever forming in younger patients and can help to soften already existing frown lines in older patients. Both men and women benefit from the cosmetic improvement that Dysport can provide.
What is the difference between Dysport and dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane and Radiesse?
Though both treatments are commonly used to soften the look of wrinkles, Dysport treats the cause of the wrinkle (the contracting muscle) while dermal fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm are used to correct the wrinkle itself (the indent in the skin). Combining the treatments to both relax the muscle, and “plump up” the skin, achieves a more substantial and longer lasting correction than either treatment alone.
How is Dysport different than Botox?
Dysport and Botox are both Botulinum Toxins, made by two different competing companies. Dyport has a slightly faster onset, but still lasts 3-4 months, so some patients prefer Dysport. They are both safe and effective.
Who should not have Dysport?
Patients that are pregnant or nursing, and patients with neuromuscular disorders, should not have Dysport treatment.
How much does Dysport cost?
The price of a Dysport treatment varies depending on the treatment area. Common areas treated included frown lines, forehead and around the eyes.
Who performs the Dysport injections?
NYC dermatologist Dr. Schweiger performs the Dysport injections in his midtown Manhattan dermatology practice.
