Fraxel Treatment for Wrinkles

Fraxel Laser NYCWhat Is the Fraxel Laser Treatment? The Fraxel laser treatment is a non-invasive procedure that is used to treat many issues.  It is commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines, but also treats sun damage, acne scars, stretch marks and melasma.  The Fraxel is an example of a fractional laser, which means that it treats a portion of the skin each pulse, leaving healthy intact skin between the treated spots in order to decrease downtime and improve safety.  The Fraxel laser produces many microscopic laser columns, which penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate the body’s own skin repair.  Collagen is produced to treat the damaged, or wrinkled, skin and the result is smoother and healthier skin after just a short series of treatments. How Does the Fraxel Work for Wrinkles? The columns of laser energy poke tiny microscopic holes in the skin, which stimulates the production of healthy collagen.  Healthy collagen produces smoother skin and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Fraxel laser treatment improves the texture of the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines around the eyes and over the entire face.  It also simultaneously addresses sun damage and pigmentation that has developed over time.  The Fraxel laser is not only used on the face, it can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the chest and hands as well. How many Fraxel treatments are required? For most patients, three to four Fraxel laser treatments produce the optimal result.  The treatments are spaced 3-5 weeks apart.  After each treatment, there are approximately two to three days of redness and minor swelling, though this can generally be covered with makeup and appears similar to a very severe sunburn. For most patients, after three days they may return to normal activities. What should be expected during the treatment? When you arrive for your Fraxel treatment, you will cleanse you’re the treatment area and we will then apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area.   It takes approximately one hour for the topical anesthetic to work fully.  After this time, we will remove the numbing cream and begin the treatment.  The treatment of wrinkles on the face takes approximately twenty-five minutes.  You will feel heat, but only mild discomfort and no pain.  After the treatment, it is normal to feel a very mild heat for a few minutes, but you will feel fine by the time you leave the office.   To schedule a consultation for the Fraxel Laser Treatment for Wrinkles in Manhattan, click here.
