Get Rid of Leg Veins Before Summer

Many patients ask us if there is a way to get rid of leg veins before summer.  The answer is long as you don't wait until Memorial Day to begin your treatments!  Getting rid of leg veins can sometimes take multiple treatments, so it is best to begin your treatments early.  Additionally, the treatments sometimes cause temporary bruising, so its convenient to have them performed during the winter months (when your legs are covered with pants or stockings.) The two best treatments for removing leg veins are sclerotherapy and laser vein removal.  Both treatments are performed in the office and work by collapsing the tiny visible vessels on your legs.  Sclerotherapy works by injecting a sclerosing agent directly into the vessels.  A series of tiny injections are used to insert the sclerosing agent into the vessels; the liquid then causes the vessels to collapse and your body's own immune system flushes them out.  Laser vein removal works by using the KTP laser to target the red blood cells in the vessels.  By targeting the red blood cells, the lasers specifically target the vessels in your skin.  The result is that the laser energy causes the superficial vessels to collapse; they are then flushed out by your body's immune system.
