A portion of Dr. Schweiger’s practice is devoted exclusively to hair loss and its treatment options, including both medical therapy and surgical hair restoration.

Medical therapy often involves a combination of oral and topical medicines.  The two current FDA approved drugs for hair loss are topical minoxidil and oral finasteride. Occasionally, other medications are also used off-label to treat hair loss. Recently, low-level laser therapy has been shown to have promise in treating hereditary hair loss.

Several patients are also candidates for surgical hair restoration. Currently, Follicular Unit Transplantation is the most advanced technique used in hair transplant surgery.

Dr. Schweiger does hair loss evaluations and consultations for hair restoration surgery at the renowned Bernstein Medical Center for Hair Restoration. At this center, Dr. Schweiger work very closely with Dr. Robert Bernstein, a pioneer and authority on Follicular Unit Transplantation.
