Hair Transplant for Men

What is Hair Transplant Surgery?
Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure in which hairs are moved from the back and sides of the scalp (called the donor area) to the thinning areas along the frontal hair line and crown of the scalp.

How is Hair Restoration Surgery performed?
Two techniques are the best for the harvesting of hairs in hair transplant surgery.  In Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), a thin strip of hair is removed from the donor site and, with the aid of special stereomicroscopes, dissected into slivers then into individual follicular unit grafts of 1-4 hairs.  In Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), individual hairs are removed directly from the posterior scalp with the use of a highly advanced robot.  There are pros and cons to each method, which can be discussed during your initial hair transplant surgery consultation.

After the hairs are harvested or dissected, a small needle is used to make numerous micro-incisions in the balding area where the hair will be placed. The small grafts of hair are then placed into the scalp. The transplanted hair follicles begin to grow new hair in a few months.  It takes about 1 year for the hair transplant to be fully grown in.

Are the results of the Hair Transplantation Surgery natural?
Yes, the hair transplant surgery results will be completely natural and not look like old “pluggy” hair transplants.  The aesthetic arrangement of the individual follicular unit hair grafts lets the surgeon to create the most natural results possible after Hair Transplant Surgery.  Usually, the signs of the transplant are undetectable within 10 days and the full benefits of the hair transplant surgery can be seen in one year.

Will there be a visible scar after Hair Replacement surgery?
Follicular Unit Transplantation leaves a very thin linear scar, which is typically buried by existing hairs in the donor area.  The technique of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) leaves tiny scars surrounding each follicle that are also hidden around existing hairs. For men who wish to wear short hair after hair transplantation, the FUE technique is preferred.

How long is recovery time after Hair Restoration Surgery?
After hair transplant, most patients can resume normal activities about two days after the procedure, with some mild restrictions for a short period of time after that. The procedure can be performed without the need to cut the patient’s hair. The hair transplantation is usually not detectable after a week to ten days. New hair will start to grow about 3 months after the procedure.

What is the cost of Hair Transplant Surgery?
The cost of hair transplant surgery is $6 per graft, with typical cases being around 1500-2000 grafts. The average price of hair transplantation is around $10,000.
