What is Hair Transplant Surgery?
Hair Transplant Surgery is a procedure in which hairs are moved from the back or sides of the scalp (the “donor area”) to the thinning areas on the front, top, and crown of the scalp.
Can women have Hair Transplant Surgery?
Women who have female pattern hair loss (i.e. have thinning localized to the front and or top part of their scalp) and have available donor hair at the back and sides of their scalp, are excellent candidates for hair transplant surgery.
How does Hair Restoration Surgery work? What are the best procedures?
There are two techniques used for the harvesting of hairs in hair transplant surgery. In Follicular Unit Transplantation, a single thin strip of hair is removed from the donor site and, with the aid of special microscopes, dissected into individual follicular unit grafts of 1-4 hairs. In Follicular Unit Extraction, the individual units are removed directly from the scalp using a state of the art robot for assistance. There are pros and cons to each method, which can be discussed during your initial consultation.
After the individual grafts are harvested, the small grafts are places into needle-sized recipient sites, which are created in the balding area.
The transplanted follicles begin to produce new hair in 2-3 months. It takes approximately one year for the hair transplant to be fully grown in.
Will the results of the Hair Transplants look natural?
The aesthetic arrangement of the individual follicular unit grafts enables the hair transplant surgeon to create the most natural results possible after Hair Transplant Surgery. Typically, the signs of the transplant are undetectable within 10 days and the full improvement of the hair transplant can be seen in 1 year.
Will there be a visible scar after Hair Transplant surgery?
The technique of Follicular Unit Transplantation leaves a very thin linear scar, which is hidden by existing hair. The technique of Follicular Unit Extraction may leave tiny scars surrounding each follicle. Both scars are buried under hairs in the back of the scalp and are essentially invisible.
Is there any “down-time” after Hair Replacement Surgery?
Patients can resume normal activities two days after the hair replacement procedure, with some exercise restrictions for a period of time after that. The procedure can be performed without the need to cut ones’ hair. The hair transplant is usually undetectable after a week to ten days. New hair begins to grow about 2-3 months after the procedure.
Is Hair Transplant Surgery covered by insurance?
We do not accept insurance for hair transplant surgery cost, as all insurance companies consider it a cosmetic procedure. We can provide a receipt and surgical notes for you to submit to your insurance provider, if you would like. The price of hair transplantation is $6 per graft.
