How to Pick the Right Cleanser for Your Skin Type

An important step in every skin care regimen--regardless if you are fighting acne or father time--is cleansing your face. There are literally thousands of cleansers on the market, so how can you find the one that works best for your skin type without trying every single one and breaking the bank? As a general rule of thumb, those with oily skin types should use cleansers that help balance the skin. One of the best formulations to do that is a foaming formulation. People with more sensitive skin, should be careful to use cleansers that do not contain fragrances, dyes or harsh sulfates. Those looking to provide anti-aging benefits to their skin, should stick to creamier cleansers. Here, a look at some of the most popular cleanser formulations on the market: Foaming Cleansers This type of cleanser is most loved by people with oilier skin types because they can strip the skin of extra oils. They also allow the user the luxury of not having to work for their cleanser--meaning the foaming delivery system does most of the work. Oil Cleansers It may sound counter intuitive to use oils as a cleanser, but the truth is that oils can actually help dissolve other oils on the skin, as oils attract oils. Oils can also leave a nice emollient on the skin. These cleansers work best on dry skin. Cream Cleansers This type of formulation is usually loaded with moisturizers and hydrating ingredients, so it's a great option for drier and older skin types. Micellar Cleansers Billed as "cleansing waters," Micellar Cleansers are great for skin that does not react well to regular tap water. They are a great way to remove makeup and dirt without using water.
