Is Botox Safe?

Botox is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic treatments in the United States.  What is the reason for its popularity?  It is not only extremely effective, but it is very safe.  Dr. Schweiger explains that, "Botox is a purified protein, specifically developed to be injected into overactive muscles.  The medication itself is flushed from the body within days, but the relaxed effect it leaves on overactive muscles lasts for three to four months after a single treatment." It is important to visit an experienced dermatologist or dermatology PA for Botox treatment, as these specialists understand the best ways to utilize this treatment to deliver the most natural and effective treatment possible.  Botox is injected directly into the overactive muscles of the face, in order to relax these muscles, and prevent the deep wrinkles that develop as a result of overactivity.  This effect is obtained by blocking the neurotransmitter that signals muscle contraction.  As Dr. Schweiger mentioned, Botox itself doesn't remain in the body for more than a few days, but it leaves behind a relaxed effect on the muscles. The safety of Botox is unparalleled.  We recommend that patients discuss their medical history and allergies with their dermatologist prior to their treatment, but Botox is considered safe for use in most patients.  The answer to the commonly asked question, "Is Botox safe?" is that it is an extremely safe treatment for the appropriate patient.
