Is Latisse Right for You?

All women want longer, thicker eyelashes - that is the reason that mascara is one of the top selling beauty products on the market!  A medicine called Latisse can now be used to enhance your eyelashes without the use of makeup.  Dr. Schweiger explains that, "Latisse works by lengthening the period of time that the eyelashes remain in the growth cycle.  Rather than shedding naturally at the normal time, the lashes continue to grow for a longer time before they shed.  The result is longer and thicker eyelashes, without the need for mascara." How do you know is Latisse is right for you?  Latisse is appropriate for most people who are interested in trying it.  We sometimes recommend that our patients with very sensitive skin start by using Latisse sparingly, as it can sometimes cause a temporary irritant reaction on the skin.  However, other than that, Latisse can be right for everyone. One of the most famous 'side effects' of Latisse is that is causes your eye color to darken.  The truth is that this is an extremely rare side effect, seen in studies of Latisse applied directly into the eye.  Thankfully, Latisse is not applied this way when used for eyelash growth - it is applied in a similar fashion to a liquid eyeliner.  For this reason, Latisse is considered safe for even patients with blue or green light-colored eyes. Your dermatologist will determine if Latisse is appropriate for you.  If so, you can begin by using it nightly to your upper eyelids.  Latisse is applied with the included applicator, and is applied directly to the base of the eyelashes.  After a period of time (usually around 2 months), Latisse can be used every other night for maintenance of eyelash growth.
