KTP Laser for Rosacea and Blood Vessels

What is the KTP laser?

KTP stands for potassium titanyl-phosphate; the KTP laser is used to treat blood vessels on the face and redness from rosacea.  The KTP laser treatment can give a dramatic improvement in the appearance of redness and vessels on the face in only one to two treatments.  It does not hurt and does not require any downtime.  Some of the improvement is seen immediately, and some of the improvement is seen in the days and weeks following the procedure.

How does the KTP laser work?

The KTP laser targets the hemoglobin in the red blood cells.  During the treatment, the energy of the KTP laser gently coagulates the blood vessels below the skin’s surface.  This collapses those visible blood vessels and decreases the generalized redness seen in rosacea.

Will there beNYC Laser Vein Removal bruising or downtime after treatment with the KTP laser?

There is no downtime after treatment with the KTP laser.  It does not cause bruising or excessive redness; most patients go immediately back to work or social events after their treatment.

What causes those ‘broken” blood vessels that the KTP is used to treat?

The blood vessels that are treated with the KTP laser may be caused by sun exposure or rosacea.  They are not a necessary part of the circulation on your face; there is a vast circulatory system in the skin that will take over once the vessels are treated.

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that may cause flushing, redness, visible blood vessels and bumps on the skin.  There are topical medications used to control rosacea, but they are often ineffective for certain types of rosacea and do not provide enough improvement for many people.  Often times, laser treatments for rosacea can give patients the greater improvement they are seeking.  Laser treatments for rosacea, such as the KTP laser, are very effective and can provide long-lasting results.

Does the KTP laser treat anything besides rosacea and blood vessels?

The KTP is an excellent treatment for rosacea and blood vessels, but it also treats sun damage and skin texture.  It can be used to treat brown spots, called lentigines, very effectively and with minimal downtime.

What is the cost of the KTP laser treatment?

The price of the KTP laser treatment varies by area treated, but treatments generally cost between $385 and $550.  The price of your treatment will be discussed during your initial consultation.
