KTP vs. V Beam Laser

What is the KTP laser? KTP stands for potassium titanyl-phosphate; the KTP laser is used to treat blood vessels on the face and redness from rosacea. The KTP laser treatment can give a dramatic improvement in the appearance of redness and vessels on the face in only one to two treatments.  It does not hurt and does not require any downtime.  Some of the improvement is seen immediately, and some of the improvement is seen in the days and weeks following the procedure. The KTP laser targets the hemoglobin in the red blood cells.  During the treatment, the energy of the KTP laser gently coagulates the blood vessels below the skin’s surface.  This collapses those visible blood vessels and decreases the generalized redness seen in rosacea. What is the V Beam laser? The V Beam laser is a pulsed-dye laser used for the treatment of generalized redness caused by rosacea or extensive sun damage.  Similar to the KTP laser, the V Beam laser targets the hemoglobin in the red blood cells.  The energy of the V Beam laser gently coagulates blood vessels beneath the skin’s surface to decrease generalized redness. What is the difference between the KTP laser and the V Beam laser? The KTP laser and the V Beam laser are considered two of the most effective laser treatments for the treatment of generalized redness and broken capillaries.  They use difference wavelengths of energy to achieve a similar goal.  The energy is delivered in a different fashion, making bruising a potential side effect after V Beam treatment.  Both the V Beam and KTP laser treatments are very safe when performed by an experienced provider. What causes those ‘broken” blood vessels that the lasers are used to treat? The blood vessels that are treated with the KTP and V Beam lasers may be caused by sun exposure or rosacea.  They are not a necessary part of the circulation on your face; there is a vast circulatory system in the skin that will take over once the vessels are treated. What is rosacea?  Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that may cause flushing, redness, visible blood vessels and bumps on the skin.  There are topical medications used to control rosacea, but they are often ineffective for certain types of rosacea and do not provide enough improvement for many people.  Often times, laser treatments for rosacea can give patients the greater improvement they are seeking.  Laser treatments for rosacea, such as the KTP laser and V Beam laser, are very effective and can provide long-lasting results. How many treatments are required for the KTP laser and V Beam laser? Both the KTP and V Beam lasers require one to three treatments. What is the cost of the V Beam and KTP laser treatments? The price of V Beam and KTP treatments is between $385-$550 per treatment. To schedule a consultation in NYC for treatment with the KTP laser, click here.
