Making Dermal Filler and Laser Treatments Less Painful

There are many non-surgical cosmetic treatments available for improving your appearance.  We find that many of our patients delay meeting with us, because they are nervous about the pain associated with the treatments that they may benefit from.  Dr. Schweiger explains that, "I always feel badly when I meet a new patient who delayed her visit due to fear over pain.  The truth is that most of the procedures performed in our office are pain-free.  If there is any pain associated with the treatment, we take all necessary steps to prevent you from feeling the pain.  Whether this means numbing your skin prior to tattoo removal, using dermal fillers containing numbing agents, or applying a numbing cream before a laser procedure, we make certain that you are comfortable during your procedure." Many of the newer dermal fillers, such as Restylane-L and Juvederm XC, actually contain a numbing agent in their formulation.  When using these fillers, you do not feel any subsequent injections after the first pinch. Prior to painful laser treatments, we ask that you come one hour before your appointment; at this time we apply a topical numbing cream to your skin (under occlusion, to help it absorb more effectively) for an hour.  When the numbing cream is removed, you will feel only very mild discomfort during the treatment. Immediately before laser tattoo removal treatments, we perform a series of tiny numbing shots, to completely numb the area being treated.  Most patients feel nothing during their tattoo removal treatment.
