New Super-Facials Set to Replace Face-Lifts

Cosmetic surgery has seen a decline in recent years and with it comes the rise of non or minimally-invasive dermatologic procedures. The faltering economy is one reason, as people do not want to spend all their money on cosmetic surgery. And the major advancements in technology for lasers and skin rejuvenation therapies is another reason patients no longer need to rely on the knife to turn back the years and make themselves look better. The idea of a super-facial is to combine multiple rejuvenating treatments in the space of an hour, so patients can go back to work or to pick up the kids with no downtime and get home looking and feeling better--and not like they've had any work done. The New York Times covered this new trend in last week's paper. More and more New York City dermatologists are offering their patients multi-step facial packages that offer a heck of a lot more than just cleansing and extracting. Rather than doing a major facial nip and tuck, doctors are artfully and strategically giving patients treatments to freshen their looks and shave years off, all the while they're leaving the office looking well-rested and younger, but not tightly pulled as they might from a face-lift. One dermatologist points out that face-lifts just pull back the skin, they do not restore volume. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane enhance and plump areas that are starting to hollow out due to age. While Botox works to iron out wrinkles and those angry lines we get in between our eyebrows. Red light therapy is another add-on offered in these super-facials. Red light penetrates the dermis to do some pretty amazing things, like boost collagen circulation, heal the skin and give it a nice, plump and healthy look. Although pricier than your typical spa facial, these super-facials are actually producing amazing results that last up to three years. So you're getting a lot more beauty bang for your buck.
