Reshaping Your Face with Botox

Botox is used for many purposes, including getting rid of wrinkles on the face and decreasing excessive sweating on the body.  One lesser known use for Botox is reshaping your face. People with wide or round faces and those with prominent jawlines can actually change the shape of their face without surgery.  Botox can be used to elongate the shape of the face or soften a prominent masseter muscle at the jawline. Dr. Schweiger explains that, "Botox can be injected into the muscles of the face for many purposes.  When reshaping your face with Botox, we inject the Botox directly into the masseter, which is the main muscle of the jawline.  This weakens the muscle, so that it does not make the clenching motion, which results in a widened jawline.  Over time, the muscle will even atrophy, which means to get smaller and weaker, to give a long lasting facial reshaping." Reshaping your face with Botox can be achieved in just one visit.  There is no downtime associated with the treatment, though the results take up to two weeks to be appreciated.  The effects of Botox last up to four months after a single treatment.  Both men and women choose to undergo facial reshaping with Botox.  The effects are subtle, but can make a dramatic improvement in a person's appearance and confidence. Botox is also used to treat TMJ disorder, by relaxing the masseter muscle, therefore preventing clenching of the muscle and eventually TMJ disorder.
