Skin Care for the Mother of the Bride

Although most eyes are on the bride, as she walks down the aisle, admittedly plenty of people are looking at the mother of the bride.  Even though its not your big day, it is certainly a day to shine!  We recognize this and came up with some pointers on skin care for the mother of the bride. 1. If you are not already using a retinoid, begin using one as soon as your daughter becomes engaged.  Retinoids stimulate the production of new collagen, which smooths out existing fine lines and prevents fine lines from forming in the future.  Dr. Schweiger formulates a retinoid called TimeLess, which is a prescription strength available only from dermatologists. 2. Plan for Botox six weeks prior to the wedding. Botox relaxes muscles to prevent the formation of deep lines and wrinkles.  It will not make you look "done" or "fake," it will only make you look smoother and happier on the big day.  Botox takes approximately one week to start working and lasts for three to four months. 3. Consider Fraxel laser resurfacing for sun damage on your chest.  Fraxel pokes microscopic holes in the skin's surface to reveal healthier, smoother skin with less sun damage.  The chest is a commonly sun damaged area; we often observe many wrinkles and sun spots on the chest, even in women who have little sun damage on their face!  Your gown will likely reveal this area, so you want to make sure its looking its best.  Plan to begin Fraxel treatments right away.  Most people require four treatments, at three to four week intervals, for the best results.
