Sun Protective Masks–Scary or Smart?

The latest skincare craze in China looks as though it came straight out of a horror movie. Sun protective masks are fast becoming the most coveted accessory on the sandy shores of China's beaches. Women in China are so afraid of getting their skin tanned that they are going to great lengths to avoid exposure to UVA and UVB rays. Is this newest trend crazy or crazy smart? We can't decide. While many in the United States would never dream of heading to the beach with a tight-fitting ski mask on their face, it's just one example of the extremes women around the world are going to in order to ensure their skin remains wrinkle-free and protected from the sun. We've also heard of women making sure they walk only on the shady side of the street or refusing to sit near the window on airplane. In China, the look of a tan is associated with peasant women that have to log long hours working outside. The most coveted skin in China--and increasingly in more parts of the world--is pale, line-free skin. Masks aren't the only protective clothing women are seeking out. Gloves to guard hands and arms from the sun are also on the rise in China. Could this trend be on its way to the United States? If you take great care to protect your skin using broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 every day, then you should be protected. You can also eat more dark chocolate to protect your skin!
