The Link Between Sugar and Aging Skin

There are many factors that contribute to our skin aging. Extrinsic (or outside) factors can include sun exposure, diet, smoking, pollution and how much alcohol you drink. Intrinsic (or natural) factors have to do with the genetic lot you were handed at birth. We can control those extrinsic factors and can help our skin look its youngest for longer. One of those extrinsic areas to focus on is a healthy diet. Try adding antioxidant-rich foods, such as berries, salmon, almonds and kale, to your diet. One type of food to cut out as much as possible is sugar. So what is the link between sugar and acne? When you consume high amounts of white sugar, a process called glycation begins to take place. This is when glucose attaches itself to collagen and breaks it down. Collagen is a building block of young and healthy looking skin. For other secrets to ageless skin, read this.
