What is Skin Resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing uses fractional lasers, such as the Fraxel Laser and the Fractional CO2 Laser, to improve the appearance of the skin's surface.  These lasers work by poking tiny microscopic holes in the skin, which stimulate the production of new collagen and healthier skin cells.  This results in fewer fine lines and wrinkles, improvement of deep acne scars, decreased pigmentation and reduction in the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Dr. Schweiger explains that, "Fractional lasers treat only a fraction of the skin's surface; this allows for safe and effective resurfacing.  By leaving the skin intact between the treated areas, post-treatment healing is faster and the risk of side effects is much lower."  Dr. Schweiger utilizes the MiXto Fractional CO2 Laser and the Fraxel re:store laser daily in his dermatology practice.  Schweiger Dermatology specializes in laser treatments, with a focus on skin resurfacing and the improvement of acne scars, wrinkles, pigment and stretch marks.
