What to Do About Those Bunny Lines

Bunny lines, those horizontal lines across the bridge of the nose that show up when you smile, are wrinkles on the face that you don't have to accept.  Treatments like Botox and Dysport can relax the muscles that contract when you smile, so that those lines across the nose do not form.  Dr. Schweiger explains that, "Botox and Dysport work by blocking the neurotransmitter that stimulates muscle contraction.  They affect only the muscle that they are injected into, they do not have the ability to 'freeze' your face.  By injecting Botox or Dysport into the muscles around the nose, it does not change your appearance at rest, but prevents those pesky lines from forming when you smile." It is a popular myth that Botox on the forehead and brows can actually cause bunny lines.  In truth, there is no reaction where the muscles around the nose compensate for the lack of muscle movement on the forehead.  This is an absolute myth.  Some people find that they notice their bunny lines once they have improved the appearance of their forehead.  These patients often ask for treatment of the bunny lines during their follow up check two weeks after Botox or Dysport treatment. Botox and Dysport treatments take only a few minutes.  There is no downtime following your treatment; most patients return to work or social engagements right away.  Botox and Dysport each take approximately 5-10 days to take effect and the improvement of bunny lines lasts 3-4 months after your visit.
