Wrinkles Make You Appear Angry Says New Study

200355257-001It makes sense that wrinkles and fine lines can make you look older, but a new study shows they can actually make you appear sad and angry, too. In the study, participants were shown pictures of 64 faces and then were asked to comment on their emotional states. The study participants said the faces of the older adults with more apparent wrinkles, looked sadder and angrier than the younger faces. All of the faces in the photos were in a neutral expression. This study proves that aging gracefully can sometimes work against you. Wrinkles and fine lines can actually cause other people to think you're upset or in a bad mood. Wrinkles can pull down on the sides of the mouth, making people look unhappy. The lines on the forehead can also trick people into believing you're angry. The study, which was discussed at the annual  meeting of the Association for Psychological Science, may give an older generation of people to consider some cosmetic intervention. The best anti-wrinkle treatments include Botox, dermal fillers (Juvederm and Restylane) and laser resurfacing treatments. Botox is extremely effective at ironing out the wrinkles on the forehead (known as the "11s" because they look like the number 11). Dermal fillers are great for those who want their marionette lines around their mouth and the laugh lines to disappear. Laser resurfacing helps to rid of crow's feet and other fine lines on the face. The best defense against fine lines and wrinkles remains proper sun protection.
